Personal archives

Since 1992, several Estonian prominent cultural figures (musicians, artists, humanitarian scholars, library professionals and other) or their successors have donated their personal archives to the National Library. The National Library also possesses the archives of the Congress of Estonia, the archives of the Pruul family, the farmers and founders of the Metsiku village lending library, and the matrices with Estonian music recorded in 1939.

In addition to paper documents, the archives contain audiovisual and electronic documents (photos, slides, microfilms, sound cassettes, CDs, DVDs) and objects. Publications are exceptional.

The archives donated to the National Library are arranged and described in the inventories and on the archival level in the online catalogue ESTER.

Archival documents may be used in the Rare Books and Archives Reading Room on the basis of inventories.
