Information on political sciences

The open access collection of publications on politology is located in the Social Sciences Reading Room on the 5th floor. In addition, materials about politology are available in the European Union Information Centre on the 5th floor and in the Law and International Organisations Reading Room on the 6th floor.

How to find literature

Online catalogue ESTER - a joint catalogue of the ELNET Consortium member libraries that contains information on Estonian and foreign-language books and periodical publications.

Card catalogues – literature acquired by the Library before 1999 can be found in the alphabetical and classified catalogues located in the Reference Reading Room on the 5th floor.

How to find articles on politology issued in the Estonian press

Database of Estonian articles ISE – a bibliographic database of the newspapers, journals, collections of articles, and serials published in Estonia. Of foreign publications, articles about Estonia and by Estonian authors are available. Articles on politology can be searched across the entire database or in the subject database ISE social sciencies. The database contains links to full texts.

In the Reference Reading Room on the 5th floor are the card catalogues that contain information on articles published before 1940 and in 1945-1998. Information on articles is also available from the publication Artiklite ja retsensioonide kroonika (Chronicle of Articles and Reviews) 1945-1991.

Database Parliamentarism – a database compiled in the National Library which covers articles about parliamentary political systems published in Estonia, and texts on the Estonian parliamentary system and Parliament, issued in Estonia and abroad. The database provides also access to full texts if these are available.

Where else to find publications on politology

Federated Search Portal of the National Library enables you to search in one or simultaneously several databases in a uniform environment. Contains library catalogues, databases of articles, and other selected websites. Electronic journals are also available.

Academic Search Complete (EbscoHost) – a bibliographic and full-text database of academic publications.

Integrum World Wide – a collection of more than 3000 databases, integrating Russia, CIS countries, and the Baltic States. Information on Russia and its regions, the CIS and Baltic States: full texts of newspapers and magazines, the news, documents from press and official publications, personalia, books, etc.

BNS – Baltic News Service’ news and archives

Subject Gateway – Politology - a systematised and indexed search system compiled in the National Library that enables users to find also Estonian and foreign websites on politics, databases (paid and free), free-access journals, a selection of library catalogues and portals created elsewhere.

E-journals – helps get access to foreign full text e-journals. A uniform register includes all the journals access to which is provided by the intermediary of the databases or directly from the publisher. Each journal title has a reference indicating to the database where the desired journal is located and the time span of full texts availability.


Publications by members of Parliament - The index is compiled on the basis of the National Library of Estonia databases and data obtained from the MPs.

Information on politology is also offered by the Academic Library of Tallinn University and University of Tartu Library.

A week in the media - This online publication is compiled by the Parliamentary Information Centre and assembles the weekly writings by Members of the Riigikogu, ministers and Estonian members of the European Parliament in national and county newspapers, blogs and news portals.
