How to find literature and video recordings?

The open access collection of literature on theatre and film is in the Theatre and Film Reference Room on the 8th floor.

  • Online catalogue ESTER - a joint catalogue of the ELNET Consortium member libraries that contains information on Estonian and foreign-language books, periodical publications, and also video recordings.

  • New theatre and film literature– a list on the homepage of the National Library introduces new theatre, film and dance-related books acquired by the Library during the last month

 How to find theatre, dance and film-related articles issued in the Estonian press

  • Database of Estonian articles ISE – a bibliographic database of newspapers, journals, collections of articles, and continuing publications issued in Estonia. Of foreign publications, articles about Estonia and by Estonian authors are available. Articles on theatre and film can be searched across the entire database or in the subject database ISE kunst, muusika, teater, film. The database contains also links to full texts.

  • Pre-1999 theatre articles are recorded in the card catalogues of the Theatre and Film Reference Room and the printed publications Eesti teatribibliograafia 1960-1991 (Estonian Theatre Bibliography) and Eesti lavakunsti pegeldusi NSV Liidu ja välisperioodikas 1940-1965 (Estonian Theatre in USSR’ and Foreign Periodicals).

  • Pre-1940 articles published in the Estonian press can be searched in the universal card catalogue of articles located in the Reference Reading Room.

 Where else to find information on theatre and film?

  • Search portal of the National Library - enables you to search in one or simultaneously several databases in a uniform environment. Contains library catalogues, databases of articles, and other selected websites. Electronic journals are also available.

  • Catalogue of e-journals – helps get access to foreign full text e-journals. A uniform register includes all the journals access to which is provided by the intermediary of the databases or directly from the publisher. Each journal title has a reference indicating to the database where the desired journal is located and the time span of full texts availability.

  • Subject Gateway – Theatre and film – a systematised and indexed search system on the homepage of the National Library that enables users to find websites, databases, free-access journals, etc related to theatre, dance and film.
