We have some good news – we offer services which might not be familiar to you yet but they will prove to be your best friends!
The National Library of Estonia recommends five simple steps for school and university students which help finding material for schoolwork or final papers.
Step 1 – Ask us and we will help
Our service Ask us! helps you to discover the resources in the subject field you are interested in. Information specialists from our Library will search for you different materials – books, newspapers and journals but also facts, photos, etc.; they will prepare subject bibliographies of literature; specify the publication data of books, articles and ohter information sources. Step 2 – Search Portal offers a single entry point
The Search Portal offers the National Library’s registered users access to many databases which do not otherwise provide seamless access. The Portal makes available scientific articles, ebooks, printed music, pictures, maps, and much more.
You can register as user of the National Library of Estonia online with an ID-card or Mobiil-ID. Register here: https://sso.nlib.ee/register?locale=en.
If you need help, see step 5!
Step 3 - use ESTER to borrow books
Although Estonia is in emergency situation, the National Library of Estonia continues to lend books with contact-free pickup.
You can borrow:
- via online catalogue ESTER
- by contacting the Library (we answer Mon-Fri 10.00-17.00)
During the emergency situation, it is possible to also borrow books and printed music located on the open shelves and designated with the status „AVAILABLE“ or „FOR USE IN LIBRARY“. These cannot be ordered via ESTER but you have to send your request at info@nlib.ee, call 6307 100 or write in the Chat window on the Library’s website. You cannot order books stored in the stacks and designated with the status „FOR USE IN LIBRARY“ but step 4 will help you accessing them.
Step 4 – Order a copy
There are items you cannot borrow for home lending – but you can order copies of them. Digital copies can be ordered of all print publications stored in the National Library’s collections. Works under copyright protection can only be copied for private use or teaching and scientific research. More information: https://www.nlib.ee/en/content/order-copies
Step 5 – Do not hesitate to contact us, and we will help and support you in the above steps.
You can reach us via phone 6307 100 and email info@nlib.ee; you can also contact us via Chat window.
