National Library of Estonia hosts Baltic Summer School of Digital Humanities

8.06.2021

On 23-26 August, the National Library of Estonia and the University of Tartu, in cooperation with partners, are organising a summer school on digital methods. The summer school aims to gather graduate students and GLAM professionals across the Baltic States to learn ways to apply innovative digital methods to their work in research or organisation. This event continues the tradition of previous summer schools that took place in Tartu and Riga.

The summer school offers a perfect opportunity to learn from experts, develop one’s own skills and make new professional contacts with colleagues across the Baltics. The use of digital technology in the humanities and social sciences as well as in memory institutions enables to improve and automate the current workflows, and also paves the way for addressing new extensive challenges involving work with data.

The summer school will provide an introduction to data analysis and methodological principles for working with (digital) data in the humanities and social sciences. It will include workshops, online lectures and one additional student day for troubleshooting research methods.

PhD and MA students as well as supervisors from all fields of humanities and social sciences are welcome. Researchers and specialists working in relevant positions as well as guests from memory institutions are also invited to attend. The summer school is designed to take place in hybrid form, fully online participation is available but workshops are also held on site at the National Library of Estonia. Participation is free.

The summer school is supported by European Regional Development Fund (University of Tartu ASTRA project PER ASPERA), Nordplus programme (National Library of Estonia programme “Going Beyond Search: Advancing Digital Competences in Libraries and Research Communities”), European Union programme Creative Europe (National Library of Estonia project “Open Digital Libraries for Creative Users”).
